3. When does the City Council meet?

The Council meets regularly on the second and the fourth Tuesday of each month at at 6:00 p.m. The meetings are held in the Council Chambers located at La Mesa City Hall, 8130 Allison Avenue, La Mesa. The Council also holds adjourned sessions and special meetings as necessary. The Council meetings are also broadcast live on the City website, the City's Facebook page, Cox Cable Channel 24 (within La Mesa City limits), and AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 (in the San Diego Region).

4. Are City Council meetings broadcast on television?

Yes. You can watch City Council cablecasts live on Cox Cable Channel 24 (within La Mesa City limits) and on AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 (in the San Diego Region) on the second Tuesday and the fourth Tuesday of every month at 6:00 pm.

5. How may I receive advance notice of what will be on the Council agenda?

City Council agendas are prepared by the City Clerk’s office and are available free of charge by the end of the day on the Friday prior to the City Council meeting. Agendas are available online, at the City Clerk’s office, posted outside the Council Chambers, or at the meeting. A complete agenda report packet is available at the La Mesa Library, 8055 University Avenue, and at the City Clerk's Office during normal business hours.

6. Can I be notified by email when a new Council Agenda is posted?

Yes. You can sign up to be notified via email when the most recent Council agenda has been posted on this website.

7. May I address the City Council at a meeting?

The Members of the City Council and City staff cordially welcome you to the meetings.

The agenda indicates the items scheduled for consideration at the meetings. If you wish to speak concerning any of these items when they are under consideration, please complete a "Request to Speak" card and submit it to the Council Hostess at the back of the Council Chambers. Approach the microphone at the front of the Chambers when the Mayor calls your name. When you have been recognized by the Mayor, please state your name for the record before you present your comments.

In order that all who wish to speak may be heard, it is requested that you limit your presentation to three minutes.

Should you wish to speak concerning an item that is not listed on the agenda, you may be heard during that part of the agenda that is listed as "Public Comments." Please complete a "Request to Speak" card and submit it to the Council Hostess at the back of the Council Chambers. Approach the microphone at the front of the Chambers when the Mayor calls your name. When you have been recognized by the Mayor, state your name for the record before speaking on the subject you have in mind.

PLEASE NOTE: In accordance with state law, an item not scheduled on the agenda may be brought forward by the general public; however, the City Council will not be able to take any action at this meeting. If appropriate, the item will be referred to Staff or placed on a future agenda.

8. How can I participate in a City Council Meeting?

The City of La Mesa encourages the participation and involvement of its citizens in the meeting process. The opinions of the citizens of La Mesa are an important factor in helping the Council form policy and direction. If you have any questions, please call the City Clerk’s office at 619.667.1120.

9. How do I apply to serve on a City Board, Commission or Committee?

To apply for a board, commission or committee, submit a completed application to the City Clerk’s office, located in City Hall, 8130 Allison Avenue, La Mesa, CA 91941. If you have any questions, please call the City Clerk’s office at 619.667.1120.

Applicants are appointed to the various boards, commissions and committees after a standard interview and appointment process. Unexpected vacancies are usually filled from the applications on file.

10. I need a copy of a City document. Where can I get one?

The City Clerk’s Office will provide a copy of any public record under its jurisdiction, including ordinances, resolutions and Council minutes. The cost for copies is $.10 per page.

11. How can I look at the City’s Municipal Code book?

You can view La Mesa's Municipal Code online. A Code book is also available at the City Clerk’s Office and at the La Mesa Library, 8055 University Avenue, during normal business hours.

General municipal elections are held in November of each even-numbered year.

14. Where is City Hall?

City Hall is located at 8130 Allison Avenue in La Mesa. Take I-8 or Highway 94 to the Spring Street exit. Turn west onto Allison Avenue and we’re on the north side of the street.

15. Where can I get a copy of a birth or death certificate or apply for a marriage license?

Certified copies of birth and death certificates are available through the San Diego County Assessor/Recorder/Clerk’s office. Marriage licenses are also available.
