La Mesa, CA - The City of La Mesa, in partnership with the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) and iCommute GO by Bike initiative, is ramping up efforts to motivate and educate residents to use their bike during the month of May at a free Bicycle Education and Safety Fair on Saturday May 7, 2022 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fair will be held in the parking lot of City Hall 8130 Allison Ave, La Mesa, CA 91942.
“We are excited to offer a fun family-friendly event to promote biking as a healthy, convenient, and environmentally friendly form of transportation,” said Hilary Ego, Environmental Program Manager at the City of La Mesa. “The City’s Climate Action Plan commits to advancing community-wide bikeability by providing bicycle safety training and educational activities.”
Event participants will engage with bicycle experts to learn about bicycle riding best practices, how to properly lock and store a bike, how to ride public transportation with a bike, receive a bike safety check, and install free bike accessories to enhance visibility on the trail or road. La Mesa Police Officers will be hosting a Bike Rodeo for kids and teaching residents how to file a stolen bike report.
This free event is made possible by a grant awarded to the City of La Mesa to support the ongoing effort by SANDAG to encourage people to GO by BIKE, maintain an active lifestyle, and help reduce greenhouse gas emissions. With over 1,700 miles of bikeways in the region, there are plenty of places to GO by BIKE.
