Lamplighters Play - World Premiere of Silkworms
Sunday, June 11, 2023
Connie Terwilliger is known for her acting and voice over work in San Diego. She has performed several times at The Lamplighters Theatre. She has written a play and we have the honor of being the first theatre to put it up on stage. Her story is of 3 generations of strong women whose struggles for love and the beauty of life play out in different ways. The grandmother, an immigrant with the wisdom of age, who relies on the daughter for residence. The daughter, driven to achieve perfection at the expense of love and happiness, but maybe could find in the attractions of a dear handyman. The granddaughter, much like her mother, striving to find balance in love and happiness, but not so much with a “stray in need of fixing.” This story is mostly true, the names have been changed to protect the innocent. It is clearly autobiographical, featuring a younger Connie, her mom, and her grandmother. Much of her grandmother's dialog was taken from a two-hour cassette tape that her mother asked her to record. You will be able to relate, rejoice, share regret, and celebrate with the characters. You will leave with a warmth in your heart and a grin on your face, which we can all use a lot of these days. Gioia de vivere! It's time to live...to love!
Additional Info: Connie has an Ukrainian refugee, Vera Ustyanskaya and her daughter staying in her home until she can return. She created the art for our show. She has donated the painting to be raffled off with the proceeds benefiting the theatre. We will be selling the tickets for $5.00 each. You do not need to be present to win. The winner will be drawn on the last day of the play.
