Overview
If you are looking to provide teen input for programs and services that pertain to your peers, the Youth Advisory Commission is for you. The commission consists of seven members and six alternate members appointed by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council. The age of each member at the time of appointment or reappointment shall be not less than 13 years nor more than 20 years, 364 days. All members shall be residents of the City or attend school in the City. ‘Attend school’ shall mean either public or private school, general or special education program (K-12th grade), or college or university. It does not mean an independent special interest program (such as karate or ballet instruction).
Members are appointed for two-year terms and serve without compensation.
Responsibilities
The commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council on matters pertaining to programs, projects, and issues that address the concerns of youth in the community. It is the responsibility of the commission to explore and develop activities and issues that will promote positive youth relations in the City of La Mesa.
