Responsibilities & Services
The Department of Public Works is responsible for the maintenance of $450 million of public infrastructure. By properly maintaining that infrastructure the department protects the public’s safety and improves the quality of life for the citizens of La Mesa.

The Department is responsible for:
  • 153 miles of streets
  • 150 miles of sewer pipe
  • 14 parks
  • 58 traffic signals
  • 6,000 signs
  • 53 miles of storm drain pipe
  • 37 buildings
  • 214 vehicles and equipment
  • 1,265 street lights
  • 10,164 street and park trees
